So have you ever wondered what creativity even is? We have all heard that „Everyone can be creative!“ and „Creativity is very individual and not only painting on canvasses“. Fine. Thank you, life guru. I think we are up to speed now. But what do those meaningful quotes mean for me in my finance-focused or milestone-driven job?
We will shad some light on this. Creativity is basically putting what you already know into new context and environments, where it would normally not be found. Basically take all you already know and combine it with all environments you already know. You don‘t have to work in innovation to be familiar with this concept. You basically need it whenever you CREATE something, which might be an excel just as well as a powerpoint.
„Okay nice. So basically what happens in my brain when i create something new is, that is scans for whatever is already there and tries do find a new connection. Okay got it.“ You might think. But let‘s take this one step further. At some point your brain might have tried all different possible connections. It needs new input to create newconnections. Let‘s see how much input or new things you experience in your everyday office (or even everydayhomeoffice) job. Same old way to the office. Same old colleagues. Same old coffee machine. You might be one of those lucky bastards that are allowed to go on business trips once in a while (although we NEVER EVER explicitely admit that business trips are fun. After all they are WORK and most of us live in a world, where workcan not be fun. But this is a different topic). It‘s amazing how much new input your brain is receiving …
